SMI Annual Dinner 2024

Creating an environment of celebration, relationship-building and strategic networking for the Society of Maritime Industries Annual Dinner 2024 in London.

Overview

Occasions like the SMI Annual Dinner are more than social events for senior leaders. These events are where bonds are built and positions are reinforced outside a formal agenda.

Tide took responsibility for delivering the evening so that nothing distracted from its purpose. Planning, guest experience, and live delivery were all managed by our team, allowing SMI and its guests to focus on connecting.

Our goal was to ensure the event felt appropriate for its audience, respectful of the setting, and set up to enable meaningful conversations without being overly structured.

Maintaining a confident, discreet presence to keep the experience effortless for guests and hosts alike. We also captured photography throughout the evening, editing onsite and delivering in the same evening to ensure the client was able to capture the promotional buzz of the event in real time.

Approach

Tide managed multiple creative elements in the lead-up to the dinner, including pre-event assets such as guest invitations. Early involvement from our team ensured the tone of the event was set and sustained from conception through to delivery.

Another key focus was the seating strategy. We developed detailed seating plans with SMI that encouraged productive conversations and long-term relationship value.

Tide’s programme management followed a similar approach:

  • After-dinner speakers were briefed in advance
  • Timings were rehearsed
  • Transitions were managed to maintain the evening’s flow

On the night, the Tide team remained discreet. Our priority was to resolve any issues quickly and quietly, so guests and hosts could have an undisturbed experience. Tide also managed event photography and on-site editing. This live support gave SMI a valuable opportunity to share content while the event was still generating buzz.

Outcome

The 2024 Annual Dinner was a composed event that saw 200 senior figures from across the maritime sector in attendance

The event ran flawlessly from arrival through to close. Considered planning and deliberate guest management meant the atmosphere encouraged genuine interaction between the guests—not forced networking—and reinforced SMI’s pivotal role in the UK maritime community.

The event also demonstrated Tide’s ability to manage high-profile, high-expectation events.
